Safetrak proves a powerful solution for British Energy
British Energy is the UK’s largest producer of electricity, generating around one-fifth of the nation’s electricity and making a powerful contribution to the country. Their operational support offices at Barnwood in Gloucester invested in Safetrak and Laddertag® to improve their safety, maintenance and identification processes for ladders onsite.
The system used prior to Safetrak was a paper based system, supported by an Excel spreadsheet which held all inspection dates. British Energy a number of ladders placed around a very large site and to send someone to try and find them to inspect was a huge task. Also, the time taken to transfer this information onto the computer once all the ladders had been found was very time consuming. Now the information is automatically planned in and the maintenance team come along, log into the handheld and away they go. When they have completed the inspection they dock the handheld which automatically updates the information on the PC and all that needs to be done is to have a look at any defects that have been highlighted.
Safetrak now provides British Energy with an accurate asset register that allows for easy and quick reference of the asset’s location in addition to the most up-to-date inspection results, all on one easy-to-view window.
Geoff Benton, EBSS Head for British Energy praises Safetrak for the transformation it has made to their management processes, saying:
“The amount of time saved by this process is astounding. All of the support and training provided has been first class and our support engineer has been extremely professional. Safetrak has made a massive difference to our business and it’s very reassuring to know that help is only a phone call away.”
With the benefits Safetrak has brought to improving their ladder inspections and asset register British Energy have since expanded its use to the identification and inspection of fire extinguisher points, microwave ovens and departmental inspections. This utilises the same software and hand-held computer, but allows for other users to use the system for an additional application.
